Come on down, the price is right....

For a long time I have been asked to sell the flowers I use on my bags separately as brooches. The only thing that has been putting me off is the length of time they take to make, I just couldn't sell them at a reasonable price.

I'm also aware I need to have a good range of designs that will suit most pockets.

I have been 'footering' about (a good Scottish word) with crocheted flowers in a bid to make one that looks good and is value for money and I have designed the above (and below).

These brooches measure about 5cm across and I think they would look good on any jacket or a bag of your own. I also enjoyed thinking of a different way to display and package them that would carry through the My Baboo logo, without being a tie on tag, so I designed these individual cardboard stands - simple and effective.

Its the Wee Green Market in Killearn this weekend so I will try the flowers out on the public to get some feedback on colours and cost, I aim to sell them for £7 each.

It has also been a week of sheep and every where I turn there are some flocks in varying stages of completion, a bit like Hitchcock's 'The Birds'

Hope to see you tomorrow at the Market!

Nananananananananana -

Batman!
This is what I was up to yesterday in preparation for Halloween. Needless to say the boy has all but slept in it - still I think it will hold out for another few days.

I'm also delighted to say I will be exhibiting at the Green Gallery Christmas fair in December, so the pressure is still on. More wool is being delivered next week so I have plenty for new stock.

I must admit it was nice to do a bit of sewing for a change, only a few sheep and robins left to finish then all my hard work will be felted ready for the next stage.

The Wee Green Market in Killearn now has a web site listing the exhibitors. Have a look to see what great products are on offer (including my own).

I can see night falling already and its only four o'clock - when do children understand the clocks changing? I was woken at 5.30am this morning - oh the joys

Wee Green Market and my Weekend

The Wee Green Market in Killearn was a success yesterday. The hall was full with exhibitors and there was certainly more people through the door than the previous couple of months. People are more relaxed when its busy as the odd visitor on a quiet day can feel the pressure of being the lone customer.

I bought myself a needle holder made by Suzanne. I often look at lovely things and never buy them because I always think - 'I can make something like that' - of course I never do, so it's little treats like the holder that put a smile on my face.

I was also heartened to know that a couple of the exhibitors at the market, Jane and Karon, will be exhibiting at the Country Living Christmas Fair in November. A few familiar faces will make the process slightly easier for me.

After the market it was off to buy some essentials, and I managed to pick up these mugs from Woolworths of all places for £1 each - what a bargain.

I also received lots of compliments regarding a couple of new bags which I'm due to put on my web site soon. They are slightly larger than I normally make and the flower has a pin on the back so you can wear it as a brooch.

Today has been spent pondering about my stand at CL, picking plums from the garden and freezing them (in 1lb batches - I'm so organised!) for future chutney making - that's Christmas sorted!

I'm off to work out how many bunnies I can make in a week - answers on poatcards please!

Far From The Maddening Crowd

It was the Fortingall Summer Fair on Sunday in one of the prettiest village halls I've seen (that's the architect in me). I managed to shift a few items. It was a day of bunnies, sheep, neck ties and hearts - lots of little things. I sold my first knitting kit too - yipee!

I also met someone that had seen pictures of my work on the photo web site Flikr - a great place for inspiration - and a bit of advertising too.

We spent the weekend with the In-Laws in Pitlochry, with the hubby's cousin and his wife from London. We wandered round the gardens of Blair Atholl Castle where there were lots of interesting sculptures and follies.

If you ever visit be sure to seek out the walled garden - its far from the maddening crowd of tourists that swarm around the main castle.

This week has been pretty quiet on the making front as my husband is working day shift. So I've been spending time with my boy. We went to see Wall-e at the cinema in Glasgow today. It was a fantastic film and the computer animation was amazing.

We trained it from Milngavie - it saves a fortune in parking charges and cuts down my carbon footprint a little - if only the station was more convenient for rural life - but that's a debate for another day.

Talking of green issues, its the fourth Wee Green Market in Killearn this Saturday 2nd August, 10am-1pm. Hope to see you there!

PS only a couple of days left to enter my Bear competition!
